Any audition is an opportunity. Increasingly, casting directors are requesting self taped submissions. It's imperative that you are on your game, even if taping at home. And, there are some important self tape auditioning tips that are imperative to understand.

You want to create a character that has depth.  That means you alone must be in touch with the spirit and feelings within yourself.  That is the magic.

You learn a great deal in acting classes, provided you have the right instructor and the class make up is right for you. You must ask questions and pay attention to several attributes of a credible acting class, so it's not a waste of time and money.

You gave a great audition and showed everything you wanted to show to the casting director. There's nothing left for you to do, but wait, and wait, and wait. The call finally came...or never did.

The importance of the right now. Life is about what you don't plan. So is your acting. Those specific moments are the ones to master and embrace, as they produce the most engaging moments for the viewer.

There's no quick fix. Acting is a skill and it takes hard work and time. If you want fame alone, you're going to get frustrated. At the beginning of your career, you need to set a foundation for the rest of your acting life.

I love comedy.  Chances are, so do you.  It's fun to laugh and make people laugh.  You must know the different kinds of comedy and what makes them funny.  Timing is important, but so is the ability to see the funny.

Many of my friends are talent managers. They operate differently. There are several things to look for and questions to ask before you sign or work with a talent manager. Many are really great, but some are not. They are out to scam you. Don't get lost in the title.

The days of headshot alone are long gone. You need a brief acting reel which immediately shows the diversity of your talent. Whether you're looking for representation or a job, it's now a must.

It's about the product, the child. Parents, with good intentions, often try to control the process. When you take a child, the parent is part of the package. That's a good or bad thing for production, depending on the parent.

You need to spend money. However, you need to know what to spend it on now, and how much is the norm in the industry. Don't get caught up in scams.

The real acting starts after you memorize the lines. So, get them down. Whether an audition or job, you need to know them so well that the viewer does not see you trying to grab them from your brain.

It's time to understand what makes acting interesting. Emotional layers or colors in your acting will keep us engaged in the moment. If you're flat and have little to no emotion, it's a snoozer.

Everyone gets nervous. It's because people are watching you. It's normal. Chances are, we don't see your nerves as much as you feel them. So, carry on and turn your energy into a great performance.
