Welcome to ATNY’s Advanced Class w/Paul.   We reserve this class for those who are mid to higher aged teens and/or have a full understanding of the basics of good acting technique.  If you want to give a good audition, become a good actor.  In this class, we explore the nuances of what it means to be a full and enriched actor.  Paul attended Juilliard and has been a force behind the instruction at NYU and Juilliard.  This is not an on camera class; rather, a class that teaches you both theory and practical acting to open your eyes.  You haven’t had a class like this before, regardless of where you’ve studied.  The camera would only get in the way of your learning, so we exclude it.

In this advanced teen class, actors will get a deeper insight into truth-centered expression and realism. Primary focus is on the feeling behind the words (not the words themselves) and the internalization of emotions before expressing them.  You’ll learn to ask more questions and get more specific in your monologue and scene work.

The class also explores instinctive behavior in relation to the actors’ surroundings by identifying sensory ques and grounding oneself. Additional focus is given to consciously manipulating elements of breath, beat, and pace.  You’ll get more when you listen to the words and adjustments given by Paul, than you will with the time you are on stage.  For repeaters, you will have new material, new scene partners and a new experience.
