Note: ATNY reserves the right to combine Teens & Kids Classes on Saturdays if, in its discretion, it is warranted. In such case, the day will follow the Teens schedule.
Step into the shoes of a working actor! This 9-week class takes young performers through the entire process of auditioning, booking and on-set filming a guest-star role—from the first audition to the final on-set performance.
Oftentimes, for those that book roles on network TV, a Guest-Star role is more than a one-day role. It is a multi-day to multi-week commitment.
You got over the callback nerves, you brought the fire at the chemistry read, and by the final class you’re ready to shoot. We focus on script analysis, character study, and production may send us some last-minute script rewrites! To add more true-to-life realism, we’ll be filming on set in the presence of crew members and creatives (aka parents and industry guests).
Each week simulates a real part of the professional TV and film experience. Actors may join this class up to Week 4, as by then we will be deep in preparing scenes and shooting schedules.
Block 1: Industry Kickoff, Auditions, Callbacks & Chemistry Reads
Meet your “casting director,” learn about the different types of TV roles (co-star, guest star, recurring), and break down what makes a great audition. Actors receive authentic TV-style sides and film a self-tape audition, learning on-camera technique, framing, and energy for screen. Students get feedback and rework their scenes for a callback, pairing up to explore chemistry, adjustments, and professionalism in the room.
Block 2: Table Read, Rehearsals, Blocking
Actors “book” their guest role! The class gathers for a professional-style table read with the full cast and “director.” Students learn how to analyze a full episode script and collaborate with an ensemble. Focus on character development, script breakdown, and incorporating director’s notes. Students explore emotional truth and connection within a TV-style scene. Rehearse with marks, camera angles, and set lingo. Learn how to take direction, hit your mark, and stay in character while navigating the technical side of filming.
Block 3: Rehearsal for Camera & Filming Day
Simulate a day on set! Run scenes with camera coverage, continuity, and multiple takes. Actors learn to adjust performances for close-ups and wide shots. And finally, it’s shoot day! The class transforms into a mini TV set. Students film their guest-star scenes using professional setups and industry-style direction.
Get Your Reel:
Celebrate your work! Receive a clip of your final edited scenes. Each actor receives constructive feedback and insight into next steps for real-world auditions and set work.
By the end of the program, students will understand every step of the process—from audition to booking to filming—and walk away with new on-camera confidence, teamwork skills, and polished footage for their reel.
